  • Anyone who’s concerned about the closure of the Service Canada Centre at 18 Corporation Dr. in Brampton should also write (postage-free) to the Hon. Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development at the House of Commons, Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6. This Minister is in charge of Service Canada. According to the Department itself, Service Canada continuously assesses and makes changes to the service delivery network to remain responsive to the needs and service demands of Canadians and client demand is always taken into consideration. It is thus very important to inundate these individuals with our letters, and the more letters that are sent the sooner we will see this office re-opened.

  • Anyone who’s concerned about the incessant air traffic over Brampton should send the following two form letters (postage free) to these two MPs. They’re refusing to do anything about this problem. Let’s inundate their offices with these letters.

    The Minister of Transport
    House of Commons
    Ottawa, ON
    K1A 0A6

    Dear Minister:

Please introduce legislation in Parliament to force NAV Canada to restore the flight path system over the GTA that existed prior to Feb. 9, 2012. At that time, NAV Canada took a long standing flight path and made it shorter and narrower. It’s ridiculous that millions of GTA residents should be subject to increased noise and reduced quality of life to save the airlines a few dollars in fuel costs. Please refer to Marg Evans of the Toronto Aviation Noise Group who appeared on the Dale Goldhawk radio show on Sept. 3, 2014 on AM 740 who articulated many of my concerns.

Please also ban all night flights at Pearson Airport. This was last done at Pearson in the 1970s. There are an average of 19 planes passing through Pearson overnight every night. If Frankfurt and Tokyo airports can ban all night flights when they’re the 5th and 3rd busiest airports worldwide respectively, then Pearson should follow their lead. The only night flight hours with a reduction at Pearson are between 12:30 am and 6:30 am and this is far too narrow a time window to encompass the evening and night time hours.

NAV Canada is good at dispensing their information but they’re not good at receiving information. There is no genuine mechanism for a dialogue with NAV Canada. Marg Evans had a dialogue with the previous Transport Minister Lisa Raitt but the Minister was unwilling to meet her concerns. The noise sanctioning mechanism currently in place is insufficient. In 2013 there was only one noise sanction in all of Canada which was in Montreal.

    Sincerely,

    your name and address

    Ramesh Sangha, MP
    100 Kennedy Rd. S.

  • Signs that you know it is Spring in Brampton

1 – you post your old lawnmower for sale on Kijiji and an hour later someone shows up and before making an offer they ask themselves ” Why do I need to spend money? can’t I just let the grass grow all I want? ”

2 – the city is riddled with dandelions everywhere and nothing is done because “it reminds me of back home”

3 – It’s time to illegally renovate that basement and open the side door for my relative who’s coming to work cash this summer

4 – “do you smell what the rock is cooking” and it smells really foul

5 – you find your brand new Honda civic on blocks after your rims have been stolen

    • Cool! Thanks for the comment! As for number 5 — my neighbor came out one day to find his company van up on cinder blocks and all 4 beat-up old rims and tires gone. Why someone would steal old crappy rims and worn tires had us wondering why? LOL

  • The Region of Peel seems to have more money than it knows what to do with. Region of Peel Employment Services Supervisor Lisa Hartley and Region of Peel Commissioner of Human Services Janet Menard informed me that the Peel Employment Resource Centre at 10 Peel Centre Dr. in Brampton was intent on unnecessary so called “upgrades” to the centre’s computers despite user objections. The “upgrades” were intended to needlessly inconvenience Centre users. The new computers have no built-in 3.5″ floppy diskette drives nor will they accept external drives. They are thus useless for the vast majority of Centre users. Peel Region taxpayers shouldn’t have been forced to pay for unnecessary “upgrades” that the Centre’s users don’t even want. When will taxpayers tell the Region of Peel to stop all this wasteful and out of control spending?

The Brampton Guardian Newspaper refused to publish this letter to the editor despite the fact that it was sent multiple times. Why won’t the Brampton Guardian cover all the waste, corruption and mismanagement in Peel Region? I guess they were too busy getting their advertising pockets stuffed by the Region of Peel.

    • Some of those decisions would have been made by the IT department rather than administration.

IT department admin can be held legally liable if there are security issues through their (perceived) ‘negligence’ so they generally ‘go overboard’ and overkill when it comes to locking down access, etc.

Very few computers these days have floppy disks, almost nobody uses them, they use USB ‘flash / thumb / zip’ drives. Although it sounds like that may be ‘turned off’ on those computers (probably for security reasons). You would have to have your files “in the Cloud” (on the Internet) to access them which is a direction many companies have moved to.

  • The corrupt pieces of trash who work at the Brampton Guardian couldn’t care less about the people of this city. They refused to cover to cover the criminality at the Region of Peel Employment Services Centre as described above. They couldn’t care less about the unemployed people of Brampton by refusing to cover the closure of the Service Canada Centre at 19 Corporation Dr. in Brampton. Bal “the Bonehead” Gosal wouldn’t do a single thing about this. He was far too busy stealing from the taxpayers of Brampton and Ramesh Sangha won’t do a thing about it either. The Brampton Guardian is far too busy covering for such political criminals such as Bal Gosal, Ramesh Sangha, Jagmeet “the Jerk” Singh and the Councillors and Region of Peel employees mentioned above by never printing any negative letters about any of these individuals. They’re far too busy ripping off the people of Brampton with their extortionately expensive classified ad rates of $20 or more for a single insertion when other community newspapers charge $7 or less. The Brampton Guardian cares so little for the people of Brampton that they won’t even locate their publishing centre here. Let’s drive this corrupt, idiotic rag out of business by boycotting all of their sponsors. Once this paper is out of business we can bring a REAL community newspaper to Brampton.

TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO BOYCOTT ALL OF THE BRAMPTON GUARDIAN’S ADVERTISERS!

  • The Region of Peel Employment Resource Centre at 10 Peel Centre Dr. in Brampton is now illegally spying on patrons electronically by recording websites visited and information downloaded and linking this information specifically to users. They also have blocking software in place to deny access to any sites they don’t approve of. They implement all this criminality by getting patrons to agree to in the contract when they sign up for computer access. They’ve also wasted thousands of dollars on unnecessary flat panel TV screens for the employment centre to confuse/hypnotize/brainwash patrons and refuse to take them down if you complain about them. Regional Councillor Gael “the Bitch” Miles, City Councillor Pat “the Pimp” Fortini, Mayor Jeffrey, Commissioner of Human Services Janet Menard and the other clowns at the Region of Peel and Region of Peel Council won’t do a thing about this. They’re far too busy stuffing their pockets at taxpayer expense. They spend all their time laughing at all the dumb idiots who vote for them and pay their salaries. These corrupt pieces of garbage are extremely proud of the fact that they’ve never ever returned any phone calls in their entire lives. The Brampton Guardian will never cover any of this since they’re getting their pockets stuffed by Region of Peel advertising and by all the big money corporate lobbyists. The Region of Peel receives funding for everyone who attends this centre and signs in. Deny them as much funding as possible by telling everyone you know to boycott the centre. If their funding dries up, all the staff that implemented these changes will be fired and their whole operation will fold like a house of cards.

TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO VOTE FOR ANYONE OTHER THAN GAEL MILES, PAT FORTINI AND MAYOR LINDA JEFFREY AND BOYCOTT THE REGION OF PEEL EMPLOYMENT SERVICES!

    • It’s the way the government works at all levels. They set budgets for each department/section to be spent during the fiscal year, which generally goes from March 31st to March 31st. They then are free to spend all of the budget on whatever they “need”.

What happens if they don’t spend it?
Well — next fiscal year they may lose that amount from their budget, because it would be perceived that they didn’t actually need that much (or they would have spent it) and the funds may be shifted to another department that overspent — since they obviously ‘needed’ more money.

Basically, they are ‘punished’ (reduced budget the following year) for saving and ‘rewarded’ (increased budget the following year) for spending.

That’s why government departments (Federally, Provincially, Regionally and Municipal level) spend recklessly. Schools and school boards work the same way. It’s a systemic problem — waste and frivolous spending of the ‘free’ tax money. If you run low of money just raise taxes — it costs the politicians, bureaucrats and other government employees nothing (except, maybe a few votes).

I was in technical sales and marketing — and I’ve had 1st hand experience with the month or two before the fiscal year end when government departments go ‘crazy’ spending what’s left in their budgets.

The purchased items MUST be delivered and received before March 31st otherwise the budget money available ‘disappears’ after March 31st..

  • I tried to post her full name and number to enable the readers to figure out her ethnic background but this information was redacted by the owner of the website. Her last name is Leeder. The person is a middle aged or older overweight white woman. She doesn’t seem to have an accent so she could be a multi-generation Canadian for all I know.

  • WANTED

(– name removed– ) of 12 Grand River Crt. Brampton, ON L6S 2J8 by Peel Regional Police and Brampton By-Law Enforcement for violating every law, local noise by-law and municipal ordinance in the book. She has total disregard for her neighbour’s private property rights by illegally moving his garbage and recycling bins by trespassing on his property without his consent. She seems too stupid to figure out where the property line is when it’s obvious and seems incapable of understanding the concept of private property rights at all.

Police and noise by-law officers should be aware of the fact that her loud barking dogs are a major nuisance by polluting the entire neighbourhood with excessive noise.

She’s a very primitive and low-class individual. If you challenge her she’ll resort to profanity. She seems incapable of basic maintenance by failing to cut her own grass and having her property covered in garbage.

Call her at (905) ( — number removed — ) and tell her what you think about her dysfunctional behaviour. Fill up her voice-mail with your messages. Fill up her mailbox with your letters.

I’m offering a $30 reward for the return of my wallet with all cards still in it.

    Thanks for your help

  • I would love to hear your thoughts on Brampton Council turning down the 1.4 billion dollar grant from Metrolinx to build an LRT in Brampton to connect the city to Mississauga. All because a bunch of rich people don’t want to see a train an acre from their gaudy mansions! If they were so obsessed with protecting their historical flower city, maybe they would stop destroying all the prime farmland and forest to build more cookie cutter houses and pack more and more people into this suburban sprawl nightmare. ….which now no one can move around in because of traffic and no transit options. I wonder what city is going to get the money that we just turned down so they can be part of the future. Think I will move there!

    • Lots of truth in what you say Cindy. I’m no expert on Urban Planning and not qualified to give advice on that topic, but no surprise, since many of the Brampton Clowncillors Clown Icon by Martin Berube have no or limited ‘vision’ (except tunnel-vision, and television). Their main concern is what decision can I make that will get the most votes in my fiefdom (like many politicians) — not what can I do that’s best for the whole City of Brampton.

It’s obvious, urban planning isn’t a skill the people in charge of urban planning here have, they appear to have virtually no training and no skill doing it — just look around Brampton for the evidence — they’re one of the main reasons Brampton sucks. There are a few exceptions but, basically it’s a Ship of Fools kept afloat by tax dollars and tax increases and soon to dwindle developer fees — and it works, because any fool can increase taxes and spend other peoples money — and they do.

Look at the $1,500,000 (for one season) they may DID funnel into a loser sports team that the Toronto Star described as “Losers on the ice and at the gate” stating that “the team has run up about $4 million in losses over its three seasons at the Powerade Centre.” Apparently they only get 1/2 the seats filled during games — Really, hockey in a city full of cricket and basketball fans isn’t popular? Who would have guessed?

It takes genius, creativity, vision and insight to do more with less (or the same). Let’s face it — those aren’t skills that many or even some have at City Hall. As the aging, sprawling infrastructure that is Brampton starts to need larger and larger budgets to operate, taxes will keep increasing to cover costs.

Either that, or services will need to be decreased — but few of the politicans will have the balls to do that. So they will defer, delay and waffle and push off decisions until they are retired from office (either voluntarily or not).

No wonder we’re having trouble hirirng a CAO (Chief Administrative Officer) working with a grid-locked, dysfunctional council in a grid-locked city is a tough sell.

  • I have lived in Brampton for 57 years. I have paid taxes for years, in previous years I have paid them, but when I received my tax bill this year found myself wondering were all this money goes, and I am feeling really agitated having to pay so much. So much money is wasted, look at the new City Hall I still wonder if this was really needed. Maybe as Bramptonians we should all stand up and say no more, we refuse to pay any more, if the City doesn’t have enough, then they better look at how to make it work. The amount of money being paid every year is huge, and I can’t believe I am paying double what I used to pay.

  • I wrote an article called on my website ‘5 reasons why Brampton sucks’. It reminded me of this website haha. Anyways, anyone who is interested should check it out, I think it’s pretty accurate (:

  • I agree, when people make decisions for this or any city they should REALLY know what they are doing. Having a degree in city/urban planning would be crucial or having someone that does work with you! I am sick of this out of control sprawl. If you like quiet neighbourhoods with not much to do then Brampton, at least where I live, is the place for you!

I share your frustrations with this city. I grew up in Malton, Mississauga where despite it still being a suburb it had a small town charm to it. The old parts of Brampton have that community ring to them like Heart Lake, Bramalea, and downtown Brampton. The rest is just a soul-sucking wasteland. This city could use more density and a grander vision. Make it fun! Bring an amusement park here. Make it important! Build a business district. Make it smart! Build universities, and libraries. I understand that this city is still growing but its rate is just appalling! We don’t even have proper infrastructure or amenities to support it.

Finally, I think urban sprawl is also a major culprit. I see it everywhere in the GTA.

  • I have been trying to get a job in Brampton for over 3 months now, and i have had 3 employers tell me that i will not find employment because i don’t speak hindi……………….. I thought Canadas first language was english is it not?!?!? way to go Canada give all the immigrants the jobs and opportunities and leave the REAL Canadians out to dry and have to accommodate to everyone else’s beliefs. We aren’t even allowed to say merry christmas anymore because that is considered to be offensive to people that don’t celebrate christmas. But they are allowed to have their bollywood festivals all over town celebrating their diwali sacrificing animals and whatever else it is they do. But we aren’t allowed to celebrate Christ birthday, that makes perfect sense. And not to mention how we allow them to walk around with swards and knives because its part of their religion, and we eat that shit up! and we allow them to walk through out airports with these items without a hassle and i have more then one lighter in my purse and they treat me like a terrorist.

    • Hey Natalie! One has a better chance of landing a job when applying for any “Govt Job” !
ie fluent french! You might be applying to a job at a business which caters to “Hindi” speaking
      clientele.
When u say “celebrating their Diwali and sacrificing animals”, these r two different festivals
altogether! That shows your limited knowledge about your surroundings! I can assure u that people celebrating Diwali has no objection on “Christmas Day”! In fact we celebrate it along with our christian friends! Please remove your tinted biased glasses! These “Brownies” r not here by force but invited by our own govt to replace the depleting and aging “white” population…

    • I like you looked for a job for a long time, I now drive to Burlington to work, I was getting frustrated too, I did notice there was a certain degree of discrimination

  • Signs you have been living in Brampton MUCH TOO Long!

1: You REALLY look forward to Spring and the annual “Dandelion Festival.”
Much like the Tulip Festival in our Nations Capital. Except lovingly cultivated on every residents lawn in “Flower Town.”

2: You know most of the Regions SWAT Team by their given name.

3: You think her Royal Blondness is worth the over $230,000.00 plus benefits as she travels the world looking for business opportunities.
Highest paid Mayor in Canada and makes more than the Premier.

4: Yellow traffic light means… speed up and sound your horn. “I’m coming thru!”

5: You can get your Gardening Badge in Cubs for growing good Buds.

6: NOT even opening a Target Store could divert Bramptonians from their # 1 “Go To” store at Shopper’s World.”

7: You know that Brampton is the 9th Largest City in Canada… same size as Vancouver IF you included the over 60,000 living in basement apartments.

8: You knew that over 80% of Brampton businesses are small or medium-sized in classification.
    Almost 4% pay some taxes!

9: You met your sweetie, took her out for dinner, had your 1st kiss, consummated your relationship,
terminated the relationship all in one night and at the same place. Hasty Mart!

  • Hey, I just came across this website and just had to laugh. I’ve been living in brampton my entire life and just about had it with this wasteland. I’m a graphic design student and currently working on a research design piece about the suburbs and suburban life. This is what I’ve got so far: Living in the suburbs for my entire life, I can vouch for it being excruciatingly boring, lacking authenticity and a prison for most youth. Above all though, the suburbs are the epitome of waste. When I say ‘waste’, I am referring to a numerous amount of concepts: the waste of land, gas, time, money and social living. When near-by is still far away and green lawns are not very ‘green’ at all, one starts to wonder what advantages the suburbs have anyway. At some point, all the big houses, spacious lots and endless roads just start to resemble a lifeless alienated wasteland; this is from my view of course, but I’m sure there are plenty of others who would agree with my argument. Just wondering if your could direct me to some statistics that I could use in my essay. Thanks!

    • Hi Cat,
Thanks for your comment, happy you had a laugh, sorry for the late reply ’cause I’m working many hours to pay for the highest auto insurance rates in Canada and my taxes, so the Mayor can collect the highest salary of any Mayor in Canada — ( that she and city council deserves for such a great job of developing Brampton into the wonderland it is today ; )

“Cars, cars, cars, cars” (sung to the tune of Monty Python’s “Spam” song) … yes, our city politicians have a deep and thorough education in City Planning and Development … Ohh! wait … no they don’t! What am saying, they make decisions that affect the City forever, but with little or no actual degrees or study in doing that … ah ha! So, no wonder it’s like you say “… the epitome of waste”

As far as stats go, I use good old Google and the Brampton Guardian, try calling the Guardian, or the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) they would be a potential source … btw, many others would agree with you, if they weren’t busy commuting back & forth in bumper-to-bumper traffic, to & from work, to make money to pay high insurance rate$, big taxe$ and fat politician salarie$ … lol

  • My family has business here in Brampton for which we pay a annual “permit/license” fee over 7k . Where is this money going and who came up with this ridiculous figure ? We wanted to enlarge the sign on the side of the road to promote our business and was told the city of Brampton will not allow it . Only a few months earlier a business down the street did what we were told we could not – “they don’t allow it anymore”. We cant open our business on holidays. Nobody should be telling us when we can and cant open , especially when we have to come up with 7 K a year for a permit. My family moved here in 1992 it was nice then ( I was young, so maybe it wasn’t ) but now I fear we have invested too much time /effort / hopes/ dreams in a city that cares not for its resident and especially small business owners.

    • Ouch! That ‘s a lot — but the Mayor does brag about Brampton being debt-free — Taxes, developer fees and permit/license fees all add to the coffers at City Hall so they can spend it on new City Hall buildings to house some of the newly hired employees (5,000 in total apparently as of 2007), + building The Rose Theater that many people who paid taxes for it to be built can’t afford to go to + paying high salaries like City Manager Deborah Dubonofsky’s $272,449 a year
      (source: http://www.bramptonguardian.com/news/article/1322969–sunshine-list-is-out)

Here’s the top of the pile of bureaucrats that get paid with our tax dollars :
      http://www.brampton.ca/en/City-Hall/Departments/Pages/welcome.aspx

I’m sure many, if not all of them, get near or over $200,000 per year (probably why they have the big smiles in photos). And under each of them is another huge pile of employees paid with tax & fees dollars.

Money is easy to spend — if it’s not your own.
